The type of government implied in planet Kellos is similar to a monarchy. The only leaders who make decisions, changes, and laws are solely the king and queen. Ever since the foundation of the planet by primus auctor (first founder), there have been 44 kings and queens, and currently the rulers are King Talc and Queen Galena. Their children, Princess Topaz and Prince Halite, were also born with green eyes. This means that when they reach adulthood, they are to marry their one true love and become the next rulers of the planet. The recent birth of these two royal babies surprised the Kellosi because just like their parents, these babies were born with emerald eyes as well. For the first time in a century, Kellos will have two generations in a row ruling Kellos. This means that the god Viride has destined this family to rule the planet and keep it in good hands. As previously stated, the Kellosi who are born with green eyes are destined to become the next kings or queens of Kellos. Since emerald is the planet's most precious stone (that is also of religious significance), having green eyes means that their god Viride has chosen you to rule Kellos. Nevertheless, this physical trait cannot be genetically passed on. Anyone (despite his or her social status) could have the luck of being born with green eyes and become king or queen. Furthermore, the rulers of Kellos belong to an organization with its neighboring planets of the Gamma Quadrant. Known as the GQU, the Gamma Quadrant Union is the governmental organization in which the king and queen of every planet of the Gamma Quadrant discuss the laws and governing system of their own planet and come up with new ideas to improve the system for the benefit of the population. Moreover, with every generation of kings and queens, there have been changes to the laws of Kellos. In other words, the king and queen have the power to add, remove, or amend laws, as long as it will benefit the Kellosi population. The planet's laws are written in the Legibus Liber ("Book of Laws"), which was recently amended by King Talc and Queen Galena. Currently, there are fifteen laws which have to be obeyed by the civilization, which include the right to life, the right to trial when accused of crime, and so on. If these laws are not followed, the consequence will be years of prison in the lacum, the Kellosi jail for criminals.
